50th ACLM
Annual Meeting
ACLM 50 Years Later:
Advances in Medicine
2010 March 4 - 7, 2010
Caribe Royale
Orlando, Florida
Welcome from the 2010 Program Chair
Greetings! On behalf of ACLM President Melvin A. Shiffman, MD, JD, FCLM, and Board of Governors, I take pride in welcoming you to
our 50th Annual Conference, ACLM 50 Years: Advances in Medicine. This meeting is unique not only because we are celebrating a milestone
in the history of this prestigious organization, but also because we are again offering concurrent sessions for a Legal Aspects of Dentistry
Conference for the second time in recent history.
We have assembled an excellent faculty of speakers on a tremendously diverse and exciting array of topics. This comprehensive program will
provide attendees with current information about leading advances in medicine and law, including sessions pertaining to: recent developments
in state courts, federal courts and the medical-legal literature; identity theft and healthcare policy; hospital-based legal clinics and binding
arbitration in malpractice claims; medical error; long term care; medical malpractice; and other pertinent issues involving the practice of
medicine and the law. In addition, my co-chair, Bruce H. Seidberg, DDS, MScD, JD, FCLM, has developed an engaging dental program to
run concurrently.
Since fifty years is a significant achievement, our celebration will include a chronicle of the evolution of ACLM provided by Dr. Cyril H.
Wecht, one of the original founding members of the organization, at the annual Cyril H. Wecht Luncheon. A historic melding of the minds and
legal medicine board certification will be highlighted at the Sandy Sanbar Lecture to be given by William J. Carbone, chief executive officer
of the American Association of Physician Specialists (AAPS). In addition, a prominent group of professionals will debate the unsettled and
timely topics of healthcare reform and pharmaceutical and corporate industry relations with health care professionals.
I hope that you will partake in other scheduled social and networking events including the annual Professional Development Luncheon, the
Women’s Leadership Breakfast, the President’s Welcome Reception, and, of course, our annual banquet celebrating 50 years of the ACLM.
To those of you who are moderating sessions and speaking, please accept my sincere thank you for getting involved with the conference and
making it the success that I know it will be. I thank each and every one of you who are taking the time out of your busy schedules to attend this
conference with the intent of learning more about medicine and law, one of the primary missions of ACLM. You will not leave disappointed.
Those of you who are not members of ACLM are invited to apply for membership by stopping at the registration desk or visiting our website
www.aclm.org.
Please enjoy this educational conference and the ambiance of Sea World, Disney World and the multiple shopping and recreational amenities. We look forward to seeing you return to future meetings.
