2008 Call for Abstracts for Poster Presentations
Greetings! On behalf of President Bruce Seidberg, DDS, MScD, JD, FCLM, the ACLM Executive Committee, Board of Governors, and
myself, I’d like to welcome you to the 48th Annual Conference of the American College of Legal Medicine.
This year’s program is entitled “Standards of Excellence in Legal Medicine” and includes a tremendously diverse and exciting array of
topics and speakers. Included in this year’s program is a unique concurrent session entitled “Legal Aspects of Dentistry” that will deal
with topics of law in dentistry. Of note, this is the first time a conference concerning this topic has been held in this country in over a
decade. The “Legal Aspects of Dentistry” conference is chaired by Dr. Bruce Seidberg, and will run as concurrent sessions to the main
conference on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2.
With respect to the main medical program of the “Standards of Excellence in Medicine” conference, participants can look forward to
presentations on many diverse topics, including sessions dealing with: recent developments in state and federal courts, reimbursement
issues and healthcare policy, medical error, bioethics and the law, medical malpractice, disaster medicine and terrorism, transactional
healthcare/regulatory issues, neurology and the law, IP law, Telemedicine and pain management regulation.
Some of the featured events of the meeting also include the 2008 Sandy Sanbar lecture, to be given by Professor Arthur Caplan, who is
a nationally renowned bioethicist and the director of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Center for Bioethics. Also featured,
will be our annual Cyril H. Wecht Luncheon. This year’s luncheon topic is Disaster Medicine and will feature both Dr. Kenneth
Mattox, chief of surgery at Ben Taub General Hospital, and Dr. David McCann, chairman of the American Board of Disaster Medicine. In
addition, other events during the meeting will include the 8th Annual Professional Development Luncheon, the Women’s Leadership
Breakfast, the President’s Welcome Reception, and, of course, our annual banquet.
Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to all of the speakers and moderators for their contributions and the hard work they put forth to
make this a successful conference. We are delighted that you have chosen to attend and thank you for coming.
Have a great time in Houston!
